Manager’s Memo January 2012

Angling

2012 has really started with exciting news. . .

On 21 and 22 January the Western Cape Bass Angling Association (WCBAA) hosted their annual Theewaterskloof Bass Classic and just over 80 anglers competed for a whopping first prize of R100 000.00. To the best of my knowledge this is the biggest single prize for a water sports event at TSC. The prize was subject to a Bass being caught weighing over 3.5kg.

The excitement reached a peak when two anglers within hours of each other caught Bass weighing the same weight, namely 3.51kg. The lucky winners shared the prize of R50 000.00 each.

Without doubt this competition has put TSC on the map as far as the anglers are concerned and from the very successful weekend held and the many favourable comments received for our catering and facilities, next year’s event promises to be even a bigger event.

Well done to Craig Fraser and his team on a splendid and well organised successful event.

 Sail Training Camp

Earlier in the month, a sail training camping was held and was well attended by just fewer than 20 keen young sailors. They slept over for 3 nights and the cafeteria staff provided 3 meals per day.

Training camps such s the above is proving to be a success and an area where similar camps will be planned for 2012.

 Other camps at TSC

We are busy with an outreach program to schools and last year Somerset House held their second consecutive life skills camp and have already booked another camp for 2012.

The Voortrekkers will be holding their 12th consecutive camp in June and this further indicates the tremendous potential that TSC has to offer organizations and schools for outdoor activities and leadership programs.

We have received numerous compliments from our members and public alike regarding the improved ablution facility that we completed toward the end of last year. The fully tiled private shower cubicles have made TSC a home from home.

TSC and the Future

Despite the tight economy we are regularly introducing new members to the Club and the affordable membership fees and high standard of membership is evident from the positive comments received.

Situated within easy reach ofCape Townand given the high cost of fuel more and more Capetonians are discovering the value of being a member at TSC.

In many ways it is a jewel that as yet has to be discovered by Capetonians.
